Man shot by police in Bagotville raid still in hospital

A week after he was shot by the police not far from his Bagotville home, Mark Moore is still in hospital and seeking explanations.

Last Sunday, Moore was forcibly taken from his David Rose Street, Bagotville, West Bank Demerara home and later shot by a policeman as he walked away.

He has already undergone two surgeries after being shot in his leg and several more have to be done at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

From his hospital bed yesterday, Moore said that at the time he was shot,  he was co-operating with the police in their search for guns, ammunition and drugs. He said it was the third time that the police had visited his home and searched.

He maintained that he had never been wanted by the police and that a week later the police are still to take a statement from him.

During the visit by Stabroek News, Moore was seen handcuffed to his bed. This was because he had been behaving in a disorderly manner, Stabroek News was told.

Moore’s mother, Angela Delph said that the family is yet to receive word from the police on the investigations that are being conducted. Delph said that last Tuesday she visited the Leonora Police Station when she was told by one of the officers there that he was unsure of why her son was shot.
