Mason jailed for gun, ammo possession

Odell Hicks, a mason who was charged in January with unlawful possession of a pistol and live ammunition, was yesterday sentenced to two and a half years in jail after being found guilty of the crime.
Hicks, 27, was charged with being in possession of a .380 pistol and being in possession of three live matching rounds on January 17, 2017, at Mandela Avenue, without being a licensed firearm holder. Hicks, who denied having both the gun and ammunition, was found guilty by city magistrate Faith McGusty, who conducted his trial.
He was subsequently sentenced to two years and six months for each charge but the sentences will run concurrently.
