Vendor in custody, guns seized after threats

A vendor was yesterday taken into custody and two firearms—one of which was found concealed in a wardrobe—were seized, after he allegedly threatened a fellow patron at an entertainment establishment in Enmore, East Coast Demerara.

The police in a press release said that around 00:10 hrs yesterday, public-spirited citizens handed over the Newtown, Enmore man, along with an unlicensed .38 Taurus revolver, five live matching rounds and one spent shell to ranks of the Guyana Police Force after he allegedly threatening a fellow patron at an entertainment establishment in the said community.

Hours later, a search was conducted at the vendor’s home and another gun was found concealed in a wardrobe. “About 09:30 hrs, the suspect was escorted to his home where a search was conducted and an unlicensed 12-gauge single barrel Stephen Shotgun and six live cartridges were found,” the police said.

As investigations continue, the police said, the suspect who remains in custody has only admitted ownership of the second weapon and ammunition.
