Tailor on $75,000 bail over causing bodily harm to longtime friend

A fight with a longtime friend, which culminated with injuries to the friend’s hand, has resulted in a tailor being hauled before the courts to answer to the crime.

Lionel Douglas is accused of inflicting grievous bodily harm on Quacy Johnson on March 11, at D’Urban Street, Lodge.

Douglas denied the allegation when granted the opportunity to enter a plea.

According to Johnson’s sister, her brother was re-admitted to hospital yesterday morning to undergo surgery on his hand.

Attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat told the court that his client and the complainant have been friends for quite some time, and that Douglas would usually give Johnson money. He said that on the day of the altercation, Johnson went to the defendant’s establishment armed with a ‘jukker’ and accused Douglas of owing him $50,000. According to the attorney, the funds were allegedly to purchase a machine but his client has no knowledge of receiving any funds to purchase any machine.

The prosecution objected to bail being granted, since the complainant has been re-admitted to hospital, and the file is incomplete.

Presiding Magistrate Fabayo Azore granted the accused $75,000 bail and adjourned the matter to April 26.
