Violent robber gets two-year sentence

A city magistrate yesterday sentenced a man to two years in jail after he admitted to committing a violent robbery.

Shawn Pindar, 45, admitted to robbing Donald Cummings of $30,000 on March 8th, 2017, at Hadfield Street, Werk-en-Rust, while in the company of another. It was further stated that the defendant made use of personal violence immediately before or after the robbery.

When read the charge by Magistrate Leron Daly, Pindar wasted no time and pleaded guilty.

Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru told the court that on the day of the robbery, the complainant was about to enter his apartment when the defendant and others choked him and dealt him several blows, as they relieved him of the money.

The prosecutor added that Pindar was previously charged with attempted murder and was committed to stand trial at the High Court, where he compensated the victim’s family.
