No injuries as aircraft skids off Kopinang airstrip

A pilot attached to Air Services Limited (ASL) and a passenger escaped unharmed yesterday after the aircraft they were in, skidded off the airstrip at Kopinang, Region 8.

According to reports reaching this newspaper, the incident occurred just around midday yesterday when a Britten Norman Islander belonging to ASL slid as it was landing on the airstrip, breaking a wheel under the ring wing in the process.

Fortunately for the pilot and passenger, they managed to walk away from the accident unharmed.

From all indications, heavy rainfall from the previous night contributed to the slipperiness of the airstrip which is also currently undergoing rehabilitative works.

The Kopinang Airstrip is one of several aerodromes that are currently undergoing rehabilitative works; as a result, pilots utilizing the airstrip have been instructed to operate with extreme caution.

Meanwhile, all attempts to obtain a comment on the incident from the local aviation company were unsuccessful.
