Duo denied bail on wounding charge

Two men were yesterday remanded to prison after they were accused of wounding another man, who is now hospitalised.

It is alleged that Ricardo France and Naresh Robinson, on April 9, at Wauna Village, unlawfully and maliciously wounded Dwight Benjamin, with the intent to maim, disfigure or disable him.

Robinson, 28, and France, 20, were not required to plead to the indictable charge after it was read to them by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in a city court yesterday.

According to the prosecutor, bail should not be granted since Benjamin is a patient at the George-town Public Hospital after he sustained lacerations to the forehead.

Robinson, a tractor operator, and France, a porter, were both remanded to prison and they are expected to appear in the Mabaruma Magistrate’s Court on May 23 for their next hearing.
