Agricola youths remanded over million-dollar robbery

Two young men were yesterday denied bail after they were charged with stealing over $1 million in cash and electronics in an armed robbery.

Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan read the charge to Antonio Maraj, 20, and Dexter Ray, 24, which stated that on April 4, at Lot 4 Public Road, McDoom, while armed with a gun, they robbed Simone Beaton of $1,135,000 in cash, two tablets, a phone, a gold chain, and two gold rings. All of the items had a total value of $1,455,000.

Maraj, of 25 Public Road, Agricola, and Ray, of 95 Second Street, Agricola, denied the charge.

According to the prosecutor, the stolen items were not recovered. He noted that the defendants should not be granted bail given the nature and seriousness of the offence.

The file, the prosecutor added, is also incomplete.

Chief Magistrate McLennan later remanded the duo to jail and adjourned the matter to May 8.
