Two die after collisions with stationary vehicles

The police say they are investigating a fatal accident which occurred about 1 am today on the McDoom Public Road, East Bank Demerara, which resulted in the death of Troy Cordwell, 40, of Lot 1 D’Urban Street and Louisa Row, Georgetown.

Enquiries disclosed, the police say,  that Cordwell was proceeding north along the western carriageway on his motorcycle CD 3069 allegedly at a fast rate and whilst in the vicinity of Pestex Environmental Solutions, he lost control and crashed into motor vehicle GSS 1066 which was stationary on the said carriageway.

He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body is presently at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police are also investigating a fatal accident which occurred on the Reliance Public Road, Essequibo Coast about 1:30 am today which resulted in the death of motorcyclist Ackeem James, 22, a Guyana Power and Light Technician of lot 3 Golden Fleece, Essequibo Coast.

Enquiries, police say, disclosed that James was proceeding south along the Reliance Public Road on motor cycle CH 2307, when he collided with the left side front fender of motor lorry GKK 9159 which was parked on the said side of the road facing north.

He was taken to the Suddie Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival, the police say.

At the time of the accident the cyclist’s helmet was strapped to the handle bar of the motor cycle.

The body is presently at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
