Former murder accused charged with Regent Rd robberies

After being freed almost three weeks ago of a murder charge, Reagus Lamazon was taken before a city magistrate on Tuesday along with another man to face four armed robbery charges.

It is alleged that Lamazon and Corinth Taylor on April 10, at Regent Road, Georgetown, while armed with a gun, robbed Robin Firebrace of three gold chains with pendants valued at $284,000 and a $65,000 phone.

It is further alleged that on the same day and at the same location they robbed A. Liverpool of two gold chains, valued at $220,000, and Lester Andrews of a $60,000 phone, and Quacy Waldron of a $30,000 phone.

According to prosecutor Arvin Moore, on the day of the robberies there was a farewell party being conducted when the defendants and two others stormed onto the premises.

The prosecutor stated that the defendants were positively identified and that they should not be granted bail based on the seriousness of the offence.

He also noted that Lamazon was caught while heading to Suriname.

Attorney Adrian Thompson, who represented both men, told the court that Taylor went to the police station indicating that someone took his motorcycle and he was told that it was being used for a robbery.

He noted that Lamazon was arrested at Springlands and was never picked out in an identification parade.

Despite the attorney’s plea, both men were remanded to prison until May 8.

Lamazon was previously charged, alongside Samuel McIntyre with the murder of Orin David. However, he was discharged after Magistrate Dylon Bess ruled that there was insufficient evidence for them to stand trial for the crime.
