Port Mourant men injured in chopping incident

Two Port Mourant men are now nursing chop wounds to their heads and fingers, after a chopping incident on Monday afternoon.

One of the injured men, Jagdesh Ghamandhi, also known as ‘Marvin’, a cane harvester of Lot 103 Ankerville, Port Mourant Corentyne, told Stabroek News, that on Monday afternoon around 6 pm he left home to go to purchase food. He said that in order to get to the public road he would have to walk though his neighbour’s yard. This was a longstanding arrangement, he noted.

However, a fight then ensued between Ghamandhi and the neighbour, whose yard he would usually traverse. “He been a drink since morning and when me a walk, he come just so and start lash me,” Ghamandhi relayed. He said that before he could make good his escape, his neighbour grabbed a cutlass and dealt him a chop to his head. “Me scramble am and he fall down because he drunk, so me take the cutlass and chop am back from the side to he head and he finger,” he said.
