Two charged with murder in Covent Garden student stabbing death

The two accused, who allegedly stabbed 16-year-old Brian Charles Yearwood to death last Saturday have been charged with the capital offence and are expected to appear in court tomorrow.

The police, in a brief statement issued yesterday, said that a murder charge was read to the two suspects and they are expected to appear before a magistrate tomorrow where they will be formally charged.

Brian Charles Yearwood

Yearwood, a student of Covent Garden Secondary School and of 69 Public Road, Grove, East Bank Demerara, was stabbed once to his chest, allegedly by a 17-year-old boy of Kaneville, East Bank Demerara around 8 pm last Saturday.

He was attending a school concert in the Covent Garden Nursery School compound when the incident occurred.

Stabroek News understands that according to two other teens who were with Yearwood at the time, four males who they identified to the police, went up to Yearwood and one dealt him a cuff. After the fight the four youths ran away.

Commander of ‘A’ Division Marlon Chapman had previously told this newspaper that from all indications the incident stemmed from an old grievance between the two suspects and the teenager.

Yearwood was discovered lying on the ground by an off-duty police constable and was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he later succumbed.

Four persons were initially taken into custody but two were later released after questioning.
