Collaborative approach needed to protect Guyana’s environment

President David Granger on Thursday said that as Guyana transitions toward becoming a ‘green’ State, the stakeholder agencies must work together to protect and preserve the environment.

The President was, at the time, speaking to the board members of the five gazetted agencies within the environmental sector: the Wildlife Conservation and Management Commission, the Protected Areas Commission, the Environmental Assessment Board, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Wildlife Scientific Committee, during a meeting at the Baridi Benab at State House.

“What we are trying to do with your assistance, with your understanding, with your intelligence, with your experience is to ensure that the actions we have taken so far and that the actions, which we are to take in the future are guided by not only best practices but what we consider to be in the best interest of this generation and future generations,” the President said, according to a release from the Ministry of the Presidency.

In order to function effectively, the President said that the agencies will also need to ensure that they communicate with each other frequently so that their work becomes complementary.
