Two youths were yesterday charged and remanded to prison for the murder of 16-year-old Brian Charles Yearwood, who was stabbed while attending a school concert just over a week ago.
Shannon Cox, 20, of 261 Kaneville/Grove, East Bank Demerara, and Andy Peters, 17, of 224 B Kaneville/Grove, East Bank Demerara, allegedly murdered Yearwood on April 29, at Covent Garden.
Cox and Peters, who were unrepresented, were not required to plead to the charge, which was read to them by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown.
Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore told the court that the youths shared no relationship with each other or the deceased. The prosecutor also informed the court that the post-mortem examination report for Yearwood was still outstanding.
Chief Magistrate McLennan, before remanding the youths to prison, ordered them to appear before a probation officer for counselling until the completion of the preliminary inquiry into the charge. The case was later adjourned until May 22 for report and fixture.
Yearwood, a student of Covent Garden Secondary School and of 69 Public Road, Grove, East Bank Demerara, was stabbed once to his chest while attending a school concert at the Covent Garden Nursery School compound.
Commander of ‘A’ Division Marlon Chapman had previously told this newspaper that from all indications the stabbing stemmed from an old grievance between the two suspects and the teenager.
Yearwood was discovered lying on the ground by an off-duty police constable and was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Hospital, where he later succumbed.
