Young cop dies in Leguan accident

-he reportedly lost control of his speeding motorbike

A police rank died yesterday morning after he reportedly lost control of his speeding motorbike and collided with a car at Success, Leguan.

The accident that claimed the life of Shaqield Woolford, 20, of Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara, occurred around 11.30 am.

Woolford was subsequently taken to the Leguan Medical Centre for treatment and then transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead on arrival.

According to the accounts of witnesses, Woolford was said to have been riding his motorcycle at a fast rate and he collided with a car which was reversing out of a yard.

This newspaper was told that he was heading home to celebrate his mother’s birthday.

Efforts to contact his family were unsuccessful.

Woolford was a member of the Guyana Police Force for the past two years. He was only transferred to Anna Regina some three months ago.
