Ron Cole, the driver accused of causing the death of traffic policeman Nakosi ‘Kelvin’ LaFleur on the Eccles, East Bank Demerara public road last year, was last week found guilty of the offence by a city magistrate.

Cole, 40, of Lot 215 Blueberry Hill, Linden, was found guilty by Magistrate Leron Daly of causing death by dangerous driving. Magistrate Daly, who informed Cole

that the evidence provided by the prosecution against him was sufficient, later deferred sentencing to June 1, pending a probation report.

It was alleged that on April 11, 2016, Cole drove vehicle GRR 3955 in a manner dangerous to the public along the public road at Eccles, causing the death of La Fleur. He was charged seven days later.

LaFleur, who was stationed at the Providence Police Station, was directing traffic at the time when he was hit by Cole.

The policeman died three days after the accident at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
