Lodge man jailed for one year over cocaine pipe

A D’Urban Street, Lodge man was sentenced to a year in jail yesterday after admitting ownership of a pipe used to smoke cocaine.

City magistrate Judy Latchman also fined Alan Charles, 58, $6,000 for the crime, after he pleaded guilty to the charge that on May 19, at Pike Street, Kitty, he had a small pipe used for smoking cocaine.

Prior to Charles’ sentencing, the prosecutor stated that on the day in question, police, while conducting a raid in the Pike Street area, searched the defendant and found a small glass pipe in his right side pocket.

A test was later conducted on the pipe and a trace of cocaine was discovered.
