Clayson Clementson, the minibus driver, who was charged with attempted murder in 2016, was yesterday committed to stand trial at the High Court for the crime.
It is alleged that on October 31, 2016, at Victor Street, Lodge, Clementson attempted to murder Andre Phillips.
At the closure of the Preliminary Inquiry before Magistrate Judy Latchman, attorney Mark Waldron, who represented Clementson, made a no-case submission, emphasizing that there was no case for his client to answer to.
The prosecutor, however, urged the court to find that a prima facie case was made out against Clementson.
Subsequently, Magistrate Latchman ruled that based on the whole of the evidence, a prima facie was made out against the defendant. She then asked if he wished to say anything or call any witnesses, to which he reserved the right to do so at the High Court.
As a result, the accused was committed to stand trial at the next practicable sitting of the Demerara Assizes, to be held at the High Court.
Clementson will remain on remand until that time.
