Lindeners remanded over Providence carjacking

A 37-year old man, and his 34-year-old accomplice, were yesterday accused of robbing a man of a Toyota Premio, gold jewellery, and other items.

Magistrate Sunil Scarce read a charge to Shemroy Dover, of 181, Blueberry Hill, Wismar, Linden and Seon Mayers, of 1031, First Alley, Wismar, Linden, which stated that on June 5, at Providence, East Bank Demerara, armed with guns, they robbed Samuel Austin of a Toyota Premio valued at $2 million, property of Mohamed Rahaman, together with a gold chain, valued at $250,000, along with other items.

Both men denied the allegations.

According to the facts presented to the court by Prosecutor Adunni Innis, on the day in question, the complainant was about to reverse the vehicle when the defendants attacked him at gun point. The court heard that the men then relieved the complainant of the items mentioned in the charge, and fled the scene.

The matter was later reported to the police, and based on information received, the police arrested the duo.

While there was no objection to bail made by the prosecutor, the Magistrate denied the men bail, citing the seriousness of the offence.

The men were then remanded to jail, and will make their next court appearance on June 26.
