Sophia man charged with converting hire car to own use

A 31-year-old man was yesterday charged with fraudulently converting a Toyota G-Touring car, entrusted to him as a hire car.

O’Neil Simon was read the charge by Magistrate Leron Daly.

It is alleged that, on April 3, at Georgetown, being the bailee of a Toyota G-Touring motor vehicle, licence plate number HC 5044, valued at $1,500,000 , entrusted to him by Sukdai Ramsammy, he fraudulently converted same to his own use.

Simon, of 1430 Cummings Park, Sophia, denied the allegation.

According to the facts presented by the prosecutor, the defendant was entrusted with the vehicle as a hire car.

He added that when the complainant attempted to make contact with the defendant he was unable to do so.

Subsequently, Magistrate Daly granted the defendant $150,000 bail.

The matter was then adjourned to June 26.
