Agricola man remanded over shooting, attempted robbery

An Agricola man is now a remanded prisoner after being charged with shooting at a man and trying to rob him.

Edward Gudge, 38, is alleged to have discharged a loaded firearm at Darmindra Dean on January 27 at the McDoom Public Road, with intent to maim, disfigure or disable, or to cause grievous bodily harm.

It is further alleged that on the very date and at the same location, Gudge attempted to rob Dean.

Gudge denied both charges, which were read to him by Magistrate Judy Latchman yesterday.

Police Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves objected to bail being granted to Gudge, while citing the nature of the offence and the fact that a firearm was used in the commission of the crime. Gonsalves also told the court that Gudge admitted to both crimes in a statement he gave to the police.

Gudge was later remanded to prison until July 10, when his next hearing is scheduled.
