Taxi driver accused of break-in at cousin’s barbershop

Troy Griffith, a taxi driver charged with breaking into his cousin’s barbershop and stealing $530,000 in items, was on Wednesday granted his release on bail after denying the crime.

Griffith, of 6 ‘B’ Carol’s Place, Mocha, East Bank Demerara, is accused of breaking and entering the barbershop of Kirk Douglas between June 21 and June 22, 2017, and stealing a quantity of hair clipper machines, valued at $230,000, a 42-inch flat screen TV, valued at $220,000, a Samsung phone, valued at $67,000, and $15,000 in alcoholic beverages.

Griffith, 23, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Police Prosecutor Preston John told the court that the defendant has another matter of a similar nature at another court. However, there was no objection made to bail being granted to the accused.

As a result, Magistrate Sunil Scarce granted Griffith his release on $150,000 bail. The matter was then adjourned until July 7.
