Driver in police custody after Linden highway fatality

The driver who allegedly struck down a so far unidentified man along the Swan Public Road, Linden-Soesdyke Highway on Sunday evening is in custody, the police said.

The 45-year-old man who hails from Kuru Kururu was given a breathalyzer test and no blood alcohol was found.

The accident occurred around 22:30 hrs.

In a press release, the police said investigations revealed that the driver was proceeding in his motor car, HC 6634, south along the western carriageway of the road when the pedestrian suddenly ran across the road into the path of the vehicle.

As a result of the impact, the pedestrian, who was clad in a pair of black long pants, sustained injuries to his head and body. He was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre in an unconscious state where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

His body is currently at the Lyken Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination. Up to late yesterday afternoon, his identity was still unknown.
