Patentia man gets bail on ganja trafficking charge

A man was on Friday granted bail after he denied being in possession of almost two pounds of cannabis.

Ryan Stanley was read a charge that stated that on June 29, on La Grange Public Road, he was in possession of 941 grammes of cannabis for trafficking.

Stanley, of Lot 300 Patentia Housing Scheme, West Bank Demerara, denied the charge after it was read to him by Magistrate Clive Nurse.

Attorney Bernard DaSilva, who represented the accused, requested that his client be granted bail based as there were special reasons.

The attorney stated that at the time of the discovery of the narcotics, his client was being processed for a traffic offence. He added that while the narcotics were allegedly found on the outer part of his client’s car, at the time of the search Stanley was not present.

As a result, the magistrate granted the accused his release on $125,000 bail and adjourned the case until July 24.
