Temporary terminal accommodating passengers at CJIA

With the expansion of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) moving apace, the temporary terminal has been constructed and has been accommodating passengers since last Friday.

According to a press release from the Department of Public Information (DPI), Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the airport Andrew Kellman said that while the terminal is yet to be completed it was being used for arriving passengers since last Friday.

“Both Customs and Immigration are processing the arrival of the passengers…. I must admit that the operating system of the taxis is not the best at this time; we’re hoping to install the necessary signage that will accommodate that shortly,” the release quoted Kellman saying.

The temporary terminal became a necessity since the previous deadline for the completion of the permanent terminal in November could not be met. As such, the airport and the contracting company, China Harbour Engineering, both agreed to construct the temporary arrival terminal in order to ensure that there is space for the company to complete the expansion project.

The project was budgeted US$150 million and the release explained that the temporary terminal is being done by the contractors at no extra cost.
