Crane teen dies in accident

A sixteen-year-old pedestrian was killed in a  vehicular accident last night on the Parika Public Road and the driver of the vehicle is in custody assisting with investigations.

The dead teen has been identified as Joel Baird of Crane Housing Scheme, West Bank Demerara.

Police Commander of ‘D’ Division Leslie James last night confirmed the fatal accident which he said occurred at around 7.30 pm.

James said based on preliminary investigations the teen was walking on the Parika Public Road when he was struck down by a motor car bearing registration number PSS 4428.

He said at this stage of the investigation it is unclear how the collision occurred as they are yet to take a statement from the driver.

The commander went on to say that after Baird was struck down, he was picked up by Kacey Pearson, the driver of the vehicle, and another individual and rushed to the Leonora Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

James further explained that a breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver but there was no indication of alcohol consumption.
