South Ruimveldt man remanded on armed robbery charge

A South Ruimveldt resident was yesterday denied bail after he pleaded not guilty to a charge of armed robbery.

Leroy Bagot, 38, of 157 South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was read a charge which stated that on July 19, at Cummings Street, being armed with a gun, he robbed Alvin Robertson of one Samsung Galaxy Note 3 cellphone, valued at $130,000.

Bagot denied the charge after it was read to him by Magistrate Fabayo Azore.

Police Prosecutor Simone Payne objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness, nature and gravity of the offence and the penalty attached to the charge. She also took into consideration that a firearm was used.

Bagot was later refused bail by Magistrate Azore and subsequently remanded to prison.

The matter was adjourned until August 9.
