Week of activities against human trafficking held

The Ministerial Task Force on Trafficking in Persons (TIP) recently concluded a ‘Week of Activities’ from July 23-30, 2017 to mark  World Day Against Trafficking in Persons which is observed on July 30, 2017.

A release from the Ministry of Public Security said that the activities began with an Awareness Walk in Region 5 from No. 30 Village to Fort Wellington Secondary School which was followed by Awareness Sessions and ‘Anti-TIP Flash Mob’ performances during the week at Stabroek Market,

Mon Repos Market and Giftland Mall. The week ended on July 30, 2017 with a walk from the Bank of Guyana to the Seawall Bandstand where a TIP Awareness Concert was held.

The concert which was the marquee event of the week saw an array of local performers. The performances were preceded by an address from Ramjattan.

During the week, the release said that the Counter-Trafficking in Persons Unit (C-

TIPU) at the Ministry of Social Protection also held TIP Awareness activities in Bartica, Linden and at Giftland Mall while it also launched its ‘Blu’ Flame Campaign’ to fight the scourge.
