Care packs for domestic violence victims

The Guyana Association of Professional Social Workers (GAPSW) yesterday presented the Minister of Social Protection, Amna Ally  with hygiene care packs for survivors of domestic violence.

A release from the ministry said that at a presentation held at the Minister’s office on Lamaha and East streets, Georgetown, the President of the GAPSW, Arnold Mickle stated the need for greater collaboration between Government and the NGO community.

He stated that “…many victims of domestic violence are forced to leave the abusive relationships without any of their belongings; and they are in need of hygiene care even when entering the domestic violence shelters…”

He also said that “…the GAPSW wishes to have an ongoing relationship with the Ministry of Social Protection and we are confident that this project will reassure victims that help is available and staying in an abusive situation should never be an option…”

Ally, Minister of Social Protection expressed sincerest thanks to the GAPSW and commended the NGO for assisting the Ministry in providing enhanced support services to victims of domestic violence, the release said.
