Festival City youth charged with stealing phones from Bourda vendors

A Festival City youth was yesterday charged with stealing phones from two Bourda Market vendors.

Kevin Farley, 20, of Nutmeg Street, Festival City, North Ruimveldt, appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman in Georgetown and was read two separate charges.

It was alleged that on August 12, at Bourda Market, Georgetown, Farley stole a BLU cellphone, which was property of Nalia Isree. Farley was read a similar charge, which stated that on the same day and at the same location, he stole a BlackBerry smartphone, valued at $40,000, from Mohalie Isree.

The accused denied the charges after they were read to him by Magistrate Latchman

According to the prosecution’s case, on the day in question, Farley went to Bourda Market, where both of the complainants operate stalls. The complainants, upon realising that their cellphones were missing, raised an alarm. The accused was arrested and the phones were recovered.

The prosecution made no objections to bail and Magistrate Latchman subsequently granted Farley his release on a total of $80,000 bail. The matters are scheduled to be heard again today.
