Man used scissors to commit robbery –court hears

A father of three was yesterday remanded to prison for allegedly using a pair of scissors to rob a woman.

Delon McLean, 26, was yesterday arraigned before Magistrate Judy Latchman on the charge that on August 12, at Thomas Street, between New Market and Lamaha streets, being armed with a pair of scissors, he robbed Marissa Smith of an iPhone, valued at $60,000, $18,510 in cash and a $4,000 shoulder bag.

McLean pleaded not guilty to the charge and told the court that he is a father of three children and would appreciate it if he were granted his release on bail, since the new school year begins next month and he is expected to provide.

Police Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves, however, objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness and gravity of the offence.

Magistrate Latchman remanded McLean to prison and the matter was adjourned until September 4.
