Utilities commission meets stakeholders

Consultations have been embarked upon with stakeholders by the new Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission (PUC), Dela Britton and the regulatory body is enhancing its services which will include the annual work plan for the next year.

A release from the PUC yesterday said that over the last two weeks, the regulatory body has met the Guyana Water Inc, the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company, Digicel and the Guyana Power and Light. The utilities body also met with the Head of the Guyana Consumers Association. On Monday it conferred with various media entities. Members of the PUC team present then were Secretary, Vidiahar Persaud; Financial analyst, Moorsalene Sankar; Complaints  Manager, Destra Bourne and Engineer, Nijkita Somwaru.

The release said that the PUC shared its plan to enhance its services. The annual work for the next year includes: statutory meetings of the PUC, consumer outreach prpgrammes, research projects in each utility sector, capacity building for the staff of the PUC, complaint forms to be accessed at designated locations and via the website and the setting up of an office in Essequibo. Materials will also be developed for public relations purposes.
