NA prison officer wounded while relocating prisoner

A New Amsterdam Prison Officer was wounded yesterday afternoon while relocating a prisoner from one location to another in the prison.

When contacted, Gladwin Samuels, Acting Director of Prisons, stated that the Prison Officer was at the time relocating the prisoner when the prisoner broke a pipe and used it to bore the prison officer on his left arm.

According to a source, the prisoner, who is said to be an elderly murder accused was at the time reportedly involved in a fight with another inmate.

The prison officer was taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he received several stitches for the wound and was subsequently sent away.

Samuels noted that the police were called in to investigate.
