Mark Anthony, the 18-year-old who was left paralysed last year after allegedly exchanging gunfire with an off-duty policeman during a robbery, was sentenced to 18 months in jail on Friday, when he was convicted.
Anthony, who uses a wheelchair, was sentenced by Magistrate Dylon Bess, who found him guilty of three charges at the conclusion of a trial.
Anthony was charged with shooting a loaded firearm at Roger Pilgrim, a police officer, on September 26, 2016. He also faced two charges for possession of a .38-calibre firearm as well as the possession of three matching rounds and a spent shell, all without being the holder of a licence.
Anthony was sentenced to 18 months for shooting at the policeman, one year and a fine of $100,000 for the unlawful possession of the firearm and one year and a fine of $50,000 for the ammunition and spent shell. However, Anthony will only serve 18 months in jail as the sentences are to run concurrently.
