Burglar escapes with US$4,000 from Port Mourant house

A Port Mourant house was broken into on Wednesday evening, during which the burglar (s) escaped with US$ 4,000 in cash. Berbice police have since placed one person in custody for questioning.

According to information gathered, Ramdat Ketwaroo, also known as `Pappo’, 36, of Lot 303 Ankerville, Port Mourant, Corentyne on Wednesday afternoon, after securing his premises ventured out to a nearby wake house.

However, later in the evening neighbours informed Ketwaroo, that it appeared that someone was in his house. Ketwaroo immediately rushed home, where he discovered, that the padlock on the main door had been ripped out.

Upon entering the house, the man further discovered, that the entire two-storey building had been ransacked.

He then made several checks Stabroek News was told, after which he confirmed, that some US$4,000 was missing from a barrel in the upper flat of the house.

The police were immediately summoned and an investigation has since been launched.
