Grove man accused of obtaining money in fraudulent car sale

An alleged promise to obtain a car for someone landed a Grove resident before a city magistrate yesterday on a charge of obtaining money by false pretence.

Magistrate Judy Latchman read the charge to John Medford, 31. The charge stated that Medford on July 26, at Robb Street, with intent to defraud, obtained $340,000 from Damani Daly by pretending that he was in the position to get him a car, knowing same to be false.

Medford, of 42 Second Street, Grove, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

There was no objection by the prosecution to bail being granted. As a result, Magistrate Latchman granted Medford his release on $60,000 bail. His next hearing is set for September 15 before Magistrate Leron Daly.
