Police probing Goed Fortuin fatal accident

The police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred about 3.30 this morning on the Goed Fortuin Public Road, WBD that resulted in the death of Joseph James, 42, a labourer of Walter Terrace, West La Penitence Georgetown.

Investigations revealed from the driver of minibus BSS 9898 that he was proceeding north along the Western Carriageway when he stopped to urinate and in the process was robbed of his jewels, by the occupants of a car who then forced him into his vehicle (the minibus) and drove off with same and in the process struck down the deceased, who was proceeding in the said direction on a motorcycle CH 9495, after which the driver allegedly lost control and ended up in a western trench.

The cyclist was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital in an unconscious state where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body is presently at the Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The driver of the bus whose blood alcohol level was above the legal limit, and whose account of the accident contradicts that of a witness, is presently in police custody assisting with the investigation.
