Taxi driver beaten in Vryheid’s Lust carjacking

An East Coast Demerara taxi driver became the victim of a carjacking on Thursday at Vryheid’s Lust, where he was also beaten by two men.

Thameshwar Kishore, called ‘Rishi,’ of Mon Repos, sustained injuries as a result of also being gun-butted in the attack.  He was subsequently treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital but was not admitted.

Roopnarine Narine, the owner of “Shamo’s Taxi Service,” told Stabroek News last night that as Kishore was reversing HC 3929 out of a street in Vryheid’s Lust, two men rushed up to his car, opened the doors and began to beat him.

After the blows, the armed carjackers pulled Narine out of the car and escaped with the vehicle. The men also reportedly stole Kishore’s phone and $17,000 he had earned during the day’s work.

A report was made to the Sparendaam Police Station.

The taxi service is asking anyone with information on the missing white Toyota 212 to contact the nearest police station or its base on 220-5498 or 619-3667.
