Girl, 7, feared drowned

Jayleena Titus

A seven-year-old girl was feared drowned yesterday afternoon following a mishap on a fishing trip at the seashore near the Guyana Marriott Hotel at Kingston, Georgetown.

Up to press time last evening, the body of Jayleena Titus, of Second Street, Alberttown, Georgetown, had not been recovered.

The girl had accompanied her father Richard Titus, her brother and a cousin on the fishing trip.

When Stabroek News visited her home yesterday, a relative explained that the mishap occurred around 5.30 pm.

The relative said the family was told by the girl’s brother that while her father was fishing on the jetty, she was in the water playing. Sometime after, she ventured out towards a boat, which reportedly hit her and she went under the water.

The family was told that the girl’s brother rushed to her rescue but was unable to pull her up from under the water.
