Vendor charged with shooting at man

Kester King

A vendor was brought before a city magistrate last Friday on a charge that he shot at another man.

The charge against Kester King stated that on January 21, at Charlestown, in the company of another and armed with a handgun, he discharged a loaded firearm at Gavin Major, with the intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause grievous bodily harm.

King, 26, of 56 James Street, Alberttown, denied the charge after it was read to him by Magistrate Judy Latchman.

Police Prosecutor Vishnu Hunt noted that Major was previously charged with discharging a loaded firearm at King’s brother but the case was dismissed after no firearm was found. Additionally, Hunt noted that Major is now alleging that King and his brother shot at him.

Attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat, who represented King, requested that he be granted reasonable bail. King was later granted his release on $50,000 bail and the matter was adjourned to September 11 for a report.
