Taxi driver in rape, murder probes charged with escaping lawful custody

A taxi driver was remanded to prison yesterday after being charged with escaping lawful custody, while under investigation for rape and murder.

City Magistrate Judy Latchman read the charge to Thurston Semple, which stated that on August 31, at the Agricola Police station, while in lawful custody for rape and robbery, he escaped.

Semple denied the allegation levelled against him.

He was later remanded to prison and will make his next court appearance before Magistrate Fabayo Azore on September 13.
