East Ruimveldt resident Dellon McLean was yesterday remanded to prison on an armed robbery charge, which his lawyer claimed was trumped up by the police.
McLean, a vendor and mason, denied that on September 5, at North Road, Bourda, while in the company of another and armed with a gun, he robbed Sharetta Ann Boyce of a gold band, valued at $120,000, and a $48,000 gold pendant.
McLean’s attorney asked the court to forgive his client, since the man had been crying during the hearing. However, he went on to state that his client’s tears were due to him feeling victimised by particular officers, who told him that they would make it their duty to see that he was brought before the court.
The attorney also noted that his client was previously faced with a similar charge and he claimed that McLean was victimised in that instance as well.
The prosecutor, however, objected to bail being granted, while noting that the accused was placed on an identification parade and was positively identified by Boyce. As a result, Georgetown Magistrate Judy Latchman remanded the weeping McLean and adjourned the matter until September 25.
