GPL blames bad weather for latest disruptions

At approximately 2 am yesterday; the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) says inclement weather disrupted a number of circuits within the Demerara Berbice Interconnected System (DBIS). This resulted in customers within Georgetown, East Coast, East Bank and West Coast Demerara  experiencing an interruption in the supply of electricity.

Given the time of the occurrence coupled with the inclement weather, GPL said that a thorough examination of the affected circuits could not be facilitated until daylight and improved weather conditions.

Remedial work commenced at approximately 7 am with incremental restoration approximately one hour later. The last affected community was repowered at approximately 10:45 am. Additionally, there were isolated reports of localized faults and these were addressed throughout the day.
