Biker seriously hurt in Providence crash

A man has been admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital in a  serious condition after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a vehicle yesterday morning at Providence, East Bank Demerara.

Damian Defreitas’ bike after he collided with the car yesterday morning.

Damian Defreitas was reportedly riding his motorcycle, CJ 1934, south along the East Bank Highway when he collided with a Toyota Rav 4, PTT 9648. According to eyewitnesses, the Rav 4 was travelling north on the western side of the road and attempted to turn onto the eastern side of the road, when Defreitas came south on the eastern side of the road and collided with the left side of the vehicle.

The man and the pillion rider were pitched off of the bike and skated several feet on the ground.

When Stabroek News arrived at the scene, Defreitas was lying on the ground in a conscious state. However, he could not move and had to be taken into a police car and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital along with his pillion rider.

The man is currently in a serious condition and the driver of the vehicle is in police custody assisting with the investigation.
