Water restored to West Demerara communities – GWI

The Guyana Water Inc  (GWI) says that residents served by the Westminster and L’Oratoire, West Bank Demerara well stations have had their service normalized.

The disruption in water service was due mainly to Guyana Power and Light (GPL) voltage fluctuations and power failures, GWI said in a statement on Saturday.

Areas affected were: La Parfaite Harmonie, L’Oratoire, Onderneeming, West Minster, Recht-door- Zee, La Grange and Schoonord, West Bank Demerara. Customers are currently receiving water and a team from GWI’s Region 3 Office is visiting the areas to ensure the normal level of service is restored, GWI said.

GWI added that it has begun water delivery from the Vergenoegen well station to customers residing in De Kinderen, Meten-meer-Zorg Prem Nagar and Meten- meer-Zorg Railway. This exercise commenced on Saturday at 6:00 am and will continue until an acceptable level of service is achieved. GWI says it is working towards a level of service of 2.5m head (3.5 Pounds per Square Inch) as acceptable.
