Three now in custody over fatal Freeman St robbery

Two more suspects have been held by police in connection with the murder of Fazal Shaheed and the wounding of two of his brothers during a robbery at Freeman Street, East La Penitence on Sunday.

Police, in a press statement that was issued yesterday, said that two men were held yesterday. Another had been arrested on Sunday. The three men are said to be assisting police with the investigation, according to the statement.

On Sunday, around 12.45 am at Lot 194 Freeman Street, where the brothers were with family and friends had been wrapping up their preparations for a memorial service for their father, two bandits attacked.

The bandits, who escaped with jewellery, fatally shot Fazal, 58, a father of one, of 18 Albion, Corentyne, Berbice and injured two of his brothers, Shalim, 53, a father of one of the USA, and Talim, 50, a father of three of Canada.

Both Shalim and Talim, according to relatives, remain in a stable condition in the hospital.
