Islington farmer targeted in shooting

A Berbice cattle farmer was injured on Tuesday evening after he came under fire at his home and one person has since been arrested.

Fenton Belle, 45, of Islington Village, New Amsterdam, was standing in his yard at around 7.35 pm on Tuesday, when several gunshots were reportedly fired in his direction. Stabroek News was told that one of the bullets grazed the left side of Belle’s neck.

Before the attack, Belle was in conversation with a police officer. Immediately after the policeman left the residence, there was a hail of bullets.

When Stabroek News visited Belle’s home on Wednesday, his relatives said that they did not wish to speak with the media. Stabroek News observed four bullet holes on the front wall of the man’s house.

This newspaper was informed that earlier in the week Belle was reportedly involved in an altercation with another farmer.
