Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) agents on Friday evening arrested a taxi driver as they continued to probe the discovery of a quantity of cocaine-soaked hammocks that were intended to be posted to the United States of America.
A source close to investigation yesterday told Stabroek News that the taxi driver, who was arrested on Friday evening, remained in custody and was assisting with the investigation.
It is suspected that he transported Tiffini Collison, the woman for whom CANU had issued a wanted bulletin after the detection of the cocaine. She surrendered in the company of her attorney last Tuesday, a day after the bulletin was issued.
CANU had said that Collison, 26, of F 21 Samaan Street, Guyhoc Park, Georgetown, intended to post the illegal substance to the United States through an international courier service in Georgetown. The suspicious package was discovered by a CANU rank at the Eugene F Correia International Airport, at Ogle, East Coast Demerara, during the inspection of outgoing cargo.
