Good Hope miner granted bail on cocaine charge

A 47-year-old miner of Good Hope, Essequibo Coast was yesterday granted bail after being charged with trafficking in narcotics and being in possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

Zalim Khan appeared at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court before  Magistrate Esther Sam where the charges were read to him.

The first charge stated that on October 1st at Good Hope, Essequibo Coast, Khan trafficked a narcotic.

According to the police, he sold to an undercover policeman 1.5 grammes of cocaine.

He was also charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

The police say that on October 1st at Good Hope, Essequibo Coast he had in his possession two grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Khan who was represented by attorney at law Hemraj Rajkumar pleaded not guilty to both charges.

In his request for bail to be granted to his client, Rajkumar said that his client is not a flight risk and will attend his trial.

Magistrate Sam granted bail in the sum of $10,000 each for both charges and the case was adjourned until 24th November, 2017 at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court.
