Family’s home destroyed in La Jalousie fire

A fire, suspected to be electrical in origin, destroyed a family’s home at La Jalousie, West Coast Demerara on Thursday morning.

Fire Chief Marlon Gentle told Stabroek News that the fire, which gutted the two-storey Lot 12 La Jalousie house, began around 6.15 am.

He explained that two fire tenders from the Leonora Fire Station responded and managed to contain the blaze.

At the time of the fire, the house was occupied by Hazarudeen Osman, his wife Nazeema and their two children.

He explained that the fire service was still investigating to determine the cause of the fire.

Stabroek News learnt that at the time of the fire, only the woman and her two children were at home. They quickly fled the house after learning of the fire.

Nothing was saved from the fully furnished house.
